Follow me...I posted from Terecico’s post of June 6th, 2005 Check it out! Hey help me out people, is this a trackback? http://terecico.typepad.com/terecicos_mixed_reviews/2005/06/cosby_v_dyson.html
For those of you, who are lazy like myself. I’m not even going to lie, you gotta catch me on a roll for me to read something this lone, sad, huh.. But hey, I am learning. I did read the post for me to respond, so I am doing good....... Terecico :
Michael E. Dyson in his new book titled "Is Bill Cosby Right? Or Has the Black Middle Class Lost Its Mind?" gives a point-by-point response to Cosby's comments last year in Washington, D.C. that caused the black community to both reflect and chose sides. In sum Cosby stated:
"They're faking and they're draggin us down. Because the state, the city and all these people have to pick up the tab on them, because they don't want to accept that they have to study and get an education."
Now I like this blog entry. It is very necessary for where we as a people are going. I have every intentions on "going here" on my page but I get distracted and what should be a paragraph would be like 4 pages on this and similar topics. But since you asked.....I will give you this......
First and foremost I want to thank Bill Cosby, if you got any connections to him, let me know. I have a thank you card with his name on it in BOLD letters for his statements to and not for the press regarding issues surrounding this race of people and how we are basically injecting ourselves with the same hatred our former and present oppressors have injected us since our inception, well here on this "rock" anyway. I used to be a firm believer in NOT putting our business out there for "others" to interject and judge. I am still pissed at Anita and Clarence for going there like that, but since rap videos and our own representation (Thanks BET) totally rip up all credibility we have as civilized and well deserved, hard-working citizens of this lovely America (do not get me wrong, I like where I live, I do) we have no choice but to start somewhere. And poor Bill’s had it up to here. I mean the man has done so much for black people, first it was the Jell-O thing, Black people, that was a HUGE move for us, then a cartoon, come on, I know Fat Albert was funny, it was a cartoon about a fat black person, if that’s not barrier crossing, I don’t know what is. How about the wholesome, truly positive sitcom, I think it was one of the first of it’s kind, then the children’s books, then Lil Bill ( you can’t get more white bread then that) and what do we do throughout the years, trash one another, make songs about each others p@#$!, we got white women walking all throughout our videos. (I like white people, but I like black pride even better). We got some (like 10) black folk making so much $$ while the rest of us (70 percent or better) on either public assistance, homeless, jobless, fatherless, godless, fearless, hopeless. When will it be enough for us? When will we wake up and say no, it’s no ok for my 4 year old to curse and play cee-lo. No, it’s no ok for our 14 year olds to aspire to be "ballers, video ho’s, or even better pimps. No, it’s no ok for lil black girls who look up at their mom’s to say, Mommy, why don’t I have "good hair"? No, it is no ok for us to be moving backwards, while EVERYONE else is moving ahead. Bill Cosby is at that age where he’s lived so long, and seen so much that he aint pullin NO STOPS. Everybody got that one OLD OLD OLD Granny, who will say ANYTHING. Bill is that old Nana, only saying EVERYTHING. Forget this, anyone got bill’s direct connect number, email address at least. Two-way number sumthin.............
